Week of September 28 to October 2

Honors English 10
Students will submit the Literary Response Journal for The Monkey's Paw on Monday. In-class discussion on The Lottery will continue. The class will then begin reading Poe's Masque of the Red Death; the analysis will also be accompanied with a PowerPoint and class notes. Vocabulary Homework for list 1B will be due Thursday.

Honors English 12
Students will complete a comprehensive test on Lord of the Flies on Monday 9/28. Following the assessment, students will begin working on the Modern Beast project. The project will be due on Monday 10/5. Students will begin working on Epic Poetry, starting with Beowulf.

Advanced Writing
Students will submit the Story Starter assignment on Monday 9/28 and will plan for workshops to follow on Wednesday and Thursday.

Practical Literature 10
Students will continue reading Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket and will complete the PowerPoint note guide focusing on the Cause and Effect worksheet. Following Contents, students will read The Lottery and will have a series of in-class assignments to follow.

Practical English 10
Students will complete a quiz on Participial Phrases on Monday 9/28. Work on Gerunds and Gerund Phrases will begin on Tuesday. During this section of the unit, students will complete a packet of worksheets and a practice quiz. The Gerund Quiz will be given on Friday 10/2.

Week of September 21 to September 25

Honors English 10
Students will submit and present the literary device projects on Monday 9/21. Students will begin working on the Literary Response Journal for The Monkey's Paw and will discuss their responses in class. Students will begin reading Shirley Jackson's The Lottery, which will be done primarily as homework with a clarifying discussion during class. Vocabulary 1 Quiz will be given on Friday 9/25 with a the introduction of the new list following immediately after.

Honors English 12
Students will continue reading and discussing Lord of the Flies. Chapters 9 & 10 will be completed by Tuesday and 11 & 12 will be completed by Thursday. A final test will be given on Friday 9/25. Projects will be discussed throughout the week.

Advanced Writing
Students will continue working on the Story Starter assignment which will be due on Friday 9/25. A series of in-class assignments will be completed throughout the week.

Practical Literature 10
Students will work on The Masque of the Red Death Symbolism project in groups. Final projects must be submitted and presented on Tuesday 9/22. Students will then begin reading Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket and will complete the corresponding note guides.

Practical English 10
Students will take the Vocabulary 1 Quiz on Monday 9/21 with the introduction of the new list following immediately after. Classwork will introduce Verbal Phrases, particularly Participles/Participial Phrases. This section of the unit will require students to complete a series of worksheets and practice quizzes.

Week of September 14 to September 18

Honors English 10
Students will submit Metaphor Poems on Monday September 14 at the beginning of class. Time during class will be allotted for work on the Literary Device project which will be due on Monday September 21. Students will begin the Short Story Unit and will have a series of corresponding worksheets that must be completed either in class during the discussion or as homework. The sheets will be due at the completion of each story. Students will also be responsible for keeping a Literary Response Journal throughout the remainder of the unit. Vocabulary Homework for List 1A will be due on Thursday September 17.

Honors English 12
Students will continue discussing The Lord of the Flies. Discussion of Chapters 3 & 4 on Monday. Reading of 5 & 6 must be completed for Wednesday, and Chapters 7 & 8 will be discussed on Thursday September 17. A quiz on Chapters 1-4 will be given on Tuesday. Other impromptu assignments will be given throughout the week and must be completed on the day it is given.

Advanced Writing
Students will submit the 1,000 Photo Piece on Monday September 14 with a class workshop to follow on Wednesday. All students will be given grades for their individual writing as well as for the discussion in the workshop process. A Story Starter assignment will be given on Tuesday and must be completed by Monday September 21.

Practical Literature 10
Students will review Characterization and Conflict prior to beginning Masque of the Red Death. At the completion of the story, students will begin working on a symbolism storyboard project that will be due on Tuesday September 22.

Practical English 10
Students will continue working on Prepositional Phrases and will complete a quiz on the subject on Wednesday September 16. Vocabulary Homework for List 1 will be due Tuesday September 15 with a Vocabulary Quiz to follow on Friday September 18.

Week of September 8 to September 11

Honors English 10
Students will continue working on the Literary Device PowerPoint and will have two projects at the conclusion of the unit. The Metaphor Poem will be due Monday 9/14 and the Literary Device Project will be due Thursday 9/17. The first lesson of the biweekly vocabulary series will also be assigned this week; homework will be due Wednesday 9/16.

Honors English 12
Students will begin reading Lord of the Flies. As a parallel of the content in the novel, students will be given total accountability of completing the necessary assignments. They will be given a list of unit objectives that must be completed prior to the end date of the novel reading (Friday September 18); they will also be given a series of daily goals that I will provide at the beginning of class. The format is designed to mirror that of the characters in the novel and will be observed for a grade as well. Students will be given a more detailed description in class on Tuesday 9/8.

Advanced Writing
Students will submit their Vocabulary Builder short story on Tuesday 9/8 and should also provide a sample photo for the Picture's Worth 1,000 Words Project which will be due Monday 9/14.

Practical Literature 10
Students will complete a quiz on Literary Terms and Devices on Tuesday 9/8. Following the quiz, textbooks will be distributed and students will begin reading pieces in a short story unit. This readings for this week will include W.W. Jacobs' The Monkey's Paw and Poe's Masque of the Red Death.

Practical English 10
Students will be given the worksheet packet for Vocabulary List 1 which must be completed by Tuesday 9/15. The class will continue working on Objects and Complements and will complete a quiz on Thursday 9/10.
