Week of January 26 to January 29

Honors English 10
Students will continue the introduction to the reading of To Kill a Mockingbird and will focus on elements of characterization including stereotype, identity, and a disclosure of some sensitive content presented in the novel. Students will be responsible for reading Chapters 1-3 by Friday 1/29 and completing the Study Guide questions and journal assignments.

Honors English 12
Students will discuss the final chapters of Frankenstein and will give a comprehensive analysis in class. The final assessment will be given on Friday 1/29. Students will submit potential topics for research by Tuesday 2/2.

Feature Writing & Journalism
Students will view examples of investigative journalism through documentary style films and television series episodes. During the videos, students will take notes on common elements used in gathering information and presenting it in a way that differs from typical news.

Week of January 19 to January 22

Honors English 10
Students will continue the anticipatory discussion of morality in preparation to read To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will be responsible for taking notes during the introductory PowerPoint and must complete the assignment on racism in society by Monday 1/25.

Honors English 12
Students will continue reading Frankenstein. Chapters 17-19 will be discussed on Thursday 1/21. Chapters 20-21 will be discussed on Friday 1/22. Chapters 22-24 will be discussed on Tuesday 1/26. After the completion of the novel, a comprehensive project for the novel will be introduced. Students should also begin considering topics for the research paper.

Feature Writing
Students will be introduced to types of investigative journalism by viewing documentary style episodes of Morgan Spurlock's CNN Series Inside Man. Students will choose a topic for investigation for their first article due Friday 1/29.

Journalism
Students will begin the course with a brief overview of the history of journalism and its development and also the impact it had on the growth of the nation. Students will be responsible to draft a short article on a prominent figure in the field of journalism.
