Week of October 1 to October 5

Career Exploration
Students must complete all of the Career Cluster Google Docs by October 12th.

Honors English 10
Students will finish reading The Fall of the House of Usher and will discuss literary elements on Monday. Discussion will include the use of Gothic elements in both Usher and Poe's The Masque of the Red Death. Students will also be responsible for completing an assessment of the story before reading a parallel story in Cortazar's House Taken Over.

Practical English 10
Students will focus on dystopian literature and will discuss characteristics of the genre in preparation for the novel analysis of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.

Week of September 24 to September 28

Career Exploration
Students must finish GoogleDocs for the first eight Career Clusters by Wednesday 9/26. The assignment for Hospitality & Tourism, Humanities, and Information Technology will be opened on Monday 9/24 but will not be due until next week.

Honors English 10
Students will present Literary Device projects on Monday 9/24. Packets for Sleep Paralysis will also be due on Monday. Readings for The Masque of the Red Death will be due on Tuesday. Masque discussions about symbolism will take place in class on Tuesday and Wednesday. Literary Response Journals will be covered in class on Friday and students will begin working on the Perspective writing assignment.

Practical English 10
Students will begin reading cover a presentation on Mob Mentality and social pressure on Monday in preparation for Shirley Jackson's The Lottery. Study guides for the story will be completed by Wednesday. Students will cover vocabulary terms for the unit on Thursday and will review each of the literary pieces on Friday in preparation for a test on Monday 10/1.

Week of September 17 to September 21

Career Exploration
Students will continue working on documents for each of the Career Clusters. This week, students must finish Agriculture, Architecture, Arts/Communication, Business Administration, Education, and Finance. All documents must be submitted by Friday 9/21.

Honors English 10
Students will begin work on Unit 1 - Inside the Nightmare and will read the following passages: Why Do Some Brains Enjoy Fear Sleep Paralysis - A Waking Nightmare, Masque of the Red Death. Students will be responsible to take introductory notes, especially those on Gothic Literature and Edgar Allan Poe. The Poe mini-unit will have corresponding worksheets and graphic organizers in addition to the analysis work in the text.

Practical English 10
Students will begin reading Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. All reading will occur in class and students will be required to take independent notes during the discussion. Students will complete a graphic organizer to outline the basic plot events and to identify elements of Gothic Literature. Once Usher is complete, students will read House Taken Over and compare the two stories.

Week of September 10 to September 14

Career Exploration
Students will begin working on researching Career Clusters. 3 of the 16 must be completed by Friday 9/14. Time will be allotted in class for the majority of work, but all unfinished assignments must be completed as homework.

Honors English 10
Students will finish the Literary Device PPT and will be assigned the group project. Metaphor Poems and Motif/Theme worksheets will be due on Friday 9/14. Projects will be due on Monday 9/24. Students will also be given textbooks and will be responsible for reading Unit 1 submissions: Why Do Some Brains Enjoy Fear p. 82 by Monday 9/17.

Practical English 10
Students will continue reading Masque of the Red Death and will focus on a minimum of six symbols in the story. The chosen symbols must then be used in a storyboard project that will be due on Thursday 9/13.

Week of September 4 to September 7

Career Exploration
All assignments from last week must be completed by Tuesday afternoon at 2:45. Identity folders and Celebrity Personality Presentations must be completed by Thursday 9/5. Responses to the Team Building and Critical Thinking activities should be completed on the day following each activity.

Honors English 10
Students will complete notes for the Literary Terminology presentation. Individual assignments will include Allusions, Euphemisms, Metaphor Poems, and Theme. The Group project will be assigned on Friday and will be due on September 14. All online tests for Pearson must be completed by Friday September 7.

Practical English 10
Literary Device worksheets and Metaphor poems will be due at the end of class on Tuesday. Literary Device quizzes will be given during 5th period of Thursday's class. Students will begin work on Edgar Allan Poe and Gothic Literature. Individual readings will include The Masque of the Red Death, The Raven, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
