Week of 12/20 - 12/23

English 11
Students will view the 1993 Of Mice and Men film adaptation and will be required to complete a writing that focuses on major differences between the movie and the novel.

PSSA
All assignments will be completed in class. Students will complete District Assessment upon return from winter break.

Prac. Eng 10
Students will finish reading the final chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird and will take the final test Wed. 12/22. Writing Prompts for TKAM will be due Fri. 1/7.

English 8
Students will submit rough drafts for the adjective writing prompt Mon. 12/20. They will complete the Vocabulary 13 quiz on Tues. 12/21. Final drafts of the adjective assignment are due Tues. 1/4 and must be typed.

Journalism
Students will be finishing holiday news stories that will be due Wed. 12/22.

Week of December 6 - December 10

English 11
Students will review Chapters 1 and 2 from the novel Of Mice and Men in class but will be required to read Chapter 3 for homework. Completed Study Guides for Chapters 1-3 are due Tues. 12/7. Vocabulary terms defined in notebooks will be due Wed. 12/8 with a quiz to follow on Fri. 12/10. Students will also have a quiz on the first half of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.

PSSA
All work will be completed in class.

Practical Eng. 10
Study Guides for Chapters 12-14 will be due Mon. 12/6. Students will continue to read independently and will review key points of plot summary and characterization throughout. Study Guides for Chapters 15-16 will be due Wed. 12/8. Students will be responsible for reading up to Chapter 22 by Tues. 12/14.

English 8
Adjective posters must be completed Mon. 12/6. A quiz for Vocab Lesson #11 will be held Tues. 12/7 and new words will be given. Students will cover Positive, Comparative and Superlative adjectives and will have corresponding worksheets that must be done for homework.An activity for sensory observation will be done on Thursday with a brief written assignment due the following day. A quiz for Vocab Lesson #12 will be held Fri. 12/8.

Journalism
Students will review typography terminology and images. The typography quiz will be Wed. 12/8. Students will begin ethics activities that will be conducted in class. Any assignments that are not finished in class will become homework that is due uopn arrival to class the following day.

Week of 11/30 - 12/3

English 11
Students will submit a writing prompt for The Crucible due Wed. December 1. The paper must be typed and submitted at 8 am or will be considered late and will receive no credit. Students will begin reading Of Mice and Men and will have study guides that will be due periodically.

PSSA 12
All assignments will be completed in class.

Prac. English 10
Students will finish reading Part I of To Kill a Mockingbird and will be required to complete all study guides due Wed. December 1. Students will complete a quiz on Part I of TKAM on Thurs. December 2.

Journalism
Students will be required to take notes on typography terminology and will study the notes for a quiz in the following week. Students will choose 3 of the 6 areas of newsworthiness and will select current news articles that meet these requirements.

Week of 11/16 - 11/19

English 11
Students will finish viewing the film adaptation of The Crucible and will review study guides for Act IV. A quiz for Act IV will be given Wed. 11/17. Students will also be given writing prompts pertaining to the play that will be due after Thanksgiving break. These writing prompts MUST be typed and meet all of the necessary formatting requirements. Vocabulary #5 will be checked Thurs. 11/18 with a quiz to follow on Fri. 11/19.

PSSA 12
All assignments will be completed in class.

Practical English 10
Students will continue reading To Kill a Mockingbird and will be issued study guides. The study guide questions for chapters 1-5 will be due Thurs. 11/18. Students will continue reading the following chapters in Part I and will answers questions about plot and characterization along the way.

English 8
Students will continue the Pronoun Unit and will have a Quiz on all types Thurs. 11/18. Vocabulary #10 will be checked on Wed. 11/17 with a quiz to follow on Fri. 11/19

Journalism
Students will begin working on editorials and will have classroom and homework assignments. School article w/ interview will be due Wed. 11/17. Editorial rough drafts will be due Fri. 11/19.

Week of 11/8 - 11/12

English 11
Students will review Study Guides for Act III on Monday, with a quiz to follow on Tues. 11/9. Students will be given Study Guides for Act IV after completing the quiz. Act IV study guides will be due Fri. 11/12. Vocabulary for Lesson 5 will be checked on Wed. 11/17 with a quiz to follow Fri. 11/19.

PSSA 12
All activities will be completed in class.

Prac. English 10
Students will complete a quiz on the final part of Fahrenheit 451 on Mon. 11/8. Students will then review background information pertinent to To Kill a Mockingbird and will begin reading. In-class readings as well as some for homework will be assigned. This number will fluctuate daily, however, students should be bringing the book home on a regular basis.

English 8
Students will work with pronouns and will complete activities and worksheets in class. Students will have vocabulary due on Wed. 11/10  with a quiz to follow on Vocab 9 on Fri. 11/12.

Journalism
Students will begin writing School Article 2 and must include an interview. The interview questions are due Fri. 11/12 and the finished article will be due Wed. 11/17. Students will begin working on editorials as well and will have an assignment the week of 11/15.

Week of 10/25 - 10/29

*NOTE TO ALL CLASSES - Any missed assignments or back work must be completed and submitted before Monday November 1. It is the students' responsibility to obtain information on assignments that they may have missed. Any incomplete or late assignments will result in 0 (zero) for the grade.

English 11
Students will continue to read The Crucible. Students will be required to finish the Act II Study Guide by Thursday Oct. 28. Students will review for a Act II on Friday and will have a quiz to follow next week.

PSSA
Students will complete all assignments in class.

Practical English 10
Students will finish reading Part 2 of Fahrenheit 451. Responses to the writing prompt must be typed and submitted on Thursday Oct. 28 (submissions that are not typed will be subject to point deduction).

English 8
Students will read The Tell Tale Heart and complete a reaction summary. Also in reaction to the reading, students will draw an image that best represents a scene in the story. Vocabulary 7 will be checked on Wed. Oct. 27 (students must have completed definitions, worksheets, and sentences).

Journalism
Students will begin working with descriptive words. Students will work in groups to draft word lists, but will be required to complete a homework writing assignment that requires that to use a more colorful, descriptive vocabulary.

Week of 10/18 - 10/22

English 11

Students will review Act I of The Crucible and complete all study guides. Students will complete the Act I Quiz for The Crucible on Tues. 10/19. Students will continue by reading Act 2 and completing the corresponding study guides. A quiz on Vocabulary 3 will be given Fri. 10/22.

PSSA

Students will take the practice test for the PSSA in class. No homework will be assigned this week.

Practical English 10

Students will review Part 1 of Fahrenheit 451. A Quiz on the first section will be held Tues. 10/19. Students will begin an in-class writing assignment paralleling society in the novel to that of today. Any part of the writing assignment that is not completed will be done as homework and will be due Fri. 10/22.

English 8

Students will submit the Noun Autobiography due Mon. 10/18. A Unit Quiz on Lessons 1-5 vocabulary will be Tues. 10/19. Vocabulary definitions, worksheets and sentences will be due Wed. 10/20. A quiz on Vocabulary 6 will be Fri. 10/22.

Journalism

Students will begin working on Obituaries. Students are required to write an obituary on their own life as well as on that of a celebrity. Students will present their work Fri. 10/22.

Week of 10/4 - 10/8

English 11
Students will begin reading of Arthur Miller's The Crucible and will be responsible for completing the corresponding Study Guides for each Act. Individual activities will be assigned as thematic elements are addressed in the reading.

PSSA 12
Students will complete Measuring Up lessons in class.

Practical English 10
Students will begin reading Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and will be responsible for completing the corresponding Study Guides for sections of the novel. Students may be required to complete readings at home if they are not completed in class.

English 8
Students will begin working on Nouns and will be responsible for completing any worksheets for homework that are not completed during class (These will be due upon arrival of the following class day). Vocabulary 5 definitions, sentences, and worksheets are due Wed. Oct. 6  and the quiz will be completed the following Fri. Oct 8.

Journalism
Students will work on writing leads and headlines in class. Any exercises that are not completed in class will be assigned as homework. Students are also asked to read articles in a national or local newspaper that follows a pattern of development in acquisition of information. Students will draft a culminating presentation to be given Fri. Oct. 8.

Week of 9/20 - 9/24

English 11
Students will read Puritan literature in class (A General History of Virginia, Of Plymouth Plantation, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God) and may be responsible to review each as homework to have a general idea for discussion. Completed vocabulary definitions will be checked in notebooks on Friday, Sept. 24. Students will also receive rough drafts of Creation Stories and will begin revisions.

PSSA
Students will work on Measuring Up activities in class and will discuss reading comprehension strategies.

Practical Eng. 10
Students will continue short stories and will work on Poe's The Masque of the Red Death. Students will view video adaptations and will be required to create a visual storyboard. Time will be allotted in class; however, some students may need to complete the assignment at home if they do not finish during the class period.

English 8
Students will work with Parts of a Sentence, primarily subjects and predicates. Vocabulary 3 definitions, sentences and worksheet will be due Wed. Sept. 22.  The QUIZ will follow on Fri. Sept. 24

Journalism
Students will begin working in the Journalism notebooks and will continue recognition of newspaper terminology. Students will be required to locate different elements within a newspaper. This information will be test next week. Students are responsible for completing a Newsweek summary due Thurs. Sept. 23.

Week of 9/13 - 9/17

English 11

Students will discuss thematic elements of Native American oral story tradition and will draft their own creation story. The story must meet a length requirement of 1 page, double-spaced TNR12pt and must include the elements of Creation, Spirituality, Nature, and information specific to their time and location.Creation stories will be due Friday Sept. 17. Students will also be responsible for studying Vocab list #1 for a Quiz on Thursday Sept. 18.

PSSA

Students will complete a Quiz on Literary Terms. Quizzes will be held on Monday Sept. 13 and Tuesday Sept. 14, depending on which day the class meets. Students will be responsible for completing any work in the Comprehension section of the workbook that is not completed in class.

Prac. English 10

Students will continue reading examples of Suspense in short stories. On Thursday Sept. 16, an in-class writing assignment regarding point of view will be given. Any student that does not complete the assignment during class will be responsible for completing it as homework due the following day.

English 8

Students will continue discussing the Steps of the Writing Process and will have a number of in-class writing assignments. Vocab notebooks and worksheets will be checked Wednesday Sept. 15 with a Quiz to follow on Friday Sept. 17.

Journalism

Students will review for a quiz on historical events and figures in the field of American journalism. The Quiz will be given Tuesday Sept. 14. Students will also be required to compare two articles on similar topics, one from USA Today and another from a local newspaper, and discuss strengths or weaknesses. Students must choose articles that are not taken from the Associated Press, but rather by Staff Writers. These reactions will be due Friday Sept. 17.

Week of 9/7 - 9/10

English 11
Students will be required to outline introductory section of Unit 1 in their notebooks (p. 4-12). Students will complete in-class readings of Native American origin literature and will give thought to their own creation story (Due Date - TBA). Students that fail to bring all necessary materials to class will be required to write a 5x5 on the topic "How High School Makes Me Responsible for Life After Graduation" due Friday 9/10. Students will show notebooks with completed vocabulary definitions for 10 points due Thursday 9/10. A Quiz on Literary Terms will also be given on Friday 9/10.

PSSA English
Students will finish Literary Terms PowerPoint and will begin discussing the four primary means of writing. Students will complete an in-class review of literary terms prior to a quiz (Due Date - TBA).

Practical English 10
Students will read Jack Finney's Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket. Students should be prepared to discuss the story in class and should reread any information that may seem unclear. Students will continue with short stories.

English 8
Vocabulary for Lesson One will be due Tuesday 9/7. Students will receive credit for written definitions, completed worksheets, and adequate sentences (15 pts total). All students should have their books covered by this time. In class activities will involve the writing process. The Quiz for Vocabulary Lesson One will be held on Friday 9/10, on this date students will begin notebook work for Lesson Two.

Journalism
Students will be required to take notes on Historical Events and Figures of American Journalism. Quiz for History of Am. Journalism will be held Monday 9/13. Students will also be required to complete a summary/critique of a Newsweek article to be submitted Thursday 9/9.
