Week of September 30 to October 4

Feature Writing
Students will continue working on the class investigative project and will focus on a new individual writing. The individual writing will be a "Top 10" and will be due on Friday 10/4.

Honors English 10
Students will spend the week reading The Fall of the House of Usher will respond to related questions in class discussions. Upon completing the story, students will take the Selection Test at home and must have it finished on Monday 10/7.

Academic English 9
Students will read Act I of Romeo and Juliet. Study guide questions for each scene must be completed the day after the class reading has been done. A quiz on Act I will be given on Tuesday 10/8.

Practical English 10
Students will complete the Selection Test on The Fall of the House of Usher and will prepare for a test on Gothic Literature. The test will be given on Wednesday 10/2.

Week of September 23 to September 27

Feature Writing
Students will continue class investigate project on vaping/JUULing. Individually, students will begin work on "Top 10" style articles. Final Top 10 will be due Friday.

Honors English 10
Students should finish notes on the Raven and have Fear Journals submitted. Masque of the Red Death should be completed by Wednesday and the corresponding notes by Thursday. Friday, students will begin Fall of the House of Usher.

Academic English 9
Students will begin Unit 4 with an introductory activity on William Shakespeare and Iambic Pentameter. Students will begin reading Act I of Romeo and Juliet and should complete the corresponding worksheets.

Practical English 10
Students must submit their Symbol Projects for Masque of the Red Death by Monday 9/23. Students will then begin reading The Fall of the House of Usher. The story will be broken into 3 sections with brief activities after each.

Week of September 16 to September 20

Feature Writing
Students will submit final drafts of Little Red Riding Hood for review on Monday 9/16. As a class, students will decide on an event/activity in the school to cover in order to practice news writing as a group activity. Students will also have 2 assignments on copyediting due Friday 9/20.

Honors English 10
Students will finish the Unit 1 Introduction, completing the practice test for Why Do Some Brains Enjoy Fear? by Wednesday. Students will also be responsible for completing the Intro journal entry. On Thursday, students will begin background information on Edgar Allan Poe.

Academic English 9
Students will continue classwork on Direct and Indirect Objects, submitting worksheets at the end of class on Monday 9/16. A quiz on Objects will be given on Wednesday 9/18, and a test on Complements and Objects will be given on Friday 9/20 to conclude MP1 Grammar Unit.

Practical English 10
Students will finish the Unit Vocabulary. A vocabulary quiz will be given on Friday 9/20. Throughout the week, students will focus on Edgar Allan Poe, starting with The Masque of the Red Death.

Monday, September 2, 2019

Week of September 3 to September 6

Feature Writing
Students will work on identifying elements of newsworthiness in top headlines of each day's national news. Students will review Chapter 5 on Feature Writing in the Journalism text on Friday 9/6.

Honors English 10
Students will continue their review of literary terminology. Individual notes will be taken. Metaphor Poems will be due by Friday 9/6. All following assignments from the presentation will be due on Monday 9/9.

Academic English 9
Students will begin a pretest for grammar. Following the pretest students will work on parts of sentences (objects and complements), verbal phrases, and clauses. Individual worksheets will be distributed throughout the week; each worksheet is due the following day.

Practical English 10
Students will continue their review of literary terminology. Individual notes will be taken. Students will review each of the terms in preparation for a quiz that will be given on Thursday 9/8.

Week of August 26 to August 30

Feature Writing
All paperwork for the course should be submitted by Friday. Students should prepare for course by reading examples of editorials to take notes on writing techniques.

Honors English 10
Summer Reading Exams will be administered on Tuesday 8/27. All paperwork for the course should be submitted by Tuesday 9/3. Individual assignment dates for the Literary Terms & Devices PowerPoint will be listed via the stream on Google Classroom.

Academic English 9
All paperwork for the course should be submitted by Friday. Students will begin by completing a benchmark exam on Wednesday 8/28. A pretest on grammar will be given on Thursday 8/29 to determine depth of instruction to follow.

Practical English 10
All paperwork for the course should be submitted by Tuesday 9/3. Individual assignment dates for the Literary Terms & Devices PowerPoint will be listed via the stream on Google Classroom.
