Week of January 27 to January 31

Feature Writing
Students will familiarize themselves with examples of feature articles from newspapers, magazines, and broadcast media to understand the persuasive elements used to maintain reader/viewer interest. A synopsis of the introductory article will be due Tuesday 1/28. Students will also list areas of interest for their own writing; a list of three must be submitted by Friday 1/31.

Advanced Writing
Students will develop writing skills in class that will allow them to step out of the comfort zone, breaking habits to use familiarity in topic, voice, word choice, and structure. Homework assignments may follow individual lessons depending on classroom performance.

Practical English 12
Students are continuing to take notes on Literary Terms and Devices. A homework assignment incorporating 10 original examples of chosen literary terms will be due on Tuesday 1/28. A review will be given on Wednesday with a quiz to follow. Vocabulary 1 homework will be reviewed on Thursday 1/30. Students will begin preparing to read Lord of the Flies on Friday 1/31.

English 10
Students will continue reading To Kill a Mockingbird in class and will complete study guides for Chapters 1-5. A brief quiz will follow Chapter 5 and another after Chapter 8. The vocabulary homework for list 8 will be due Thursday 1/30.

Honors English 10
The reading schedule for To Kill a Mockingbird is as follows. Pages 43-66 for Wednesday 1/29, Pages 66-84 for Thursday 1/30, and Pages 85-98 for Monday 2/3. A quiz on Vocabulary List 7 will be given on Friday 1/31.
