Week of February 22 to February 25

English 11
Students will review phrases for a quiz on Wed. 2/23. Students should use books (Chapters 2 & 3) as well as handouts to study for the assessment. Students will then continue with clauses. Vocabulary will not be checked until Wed. 3/2 with a quiz to follow that Friday.

PSSA
All work will be completed in class.

SAT Prep
All work will be completed in class.

English 8
Students will complete Quizlet #2 of irregular verbs on Tues. 2/22. Vocabulary 18 will be checked in notebooks and graded for a point value Wed. 2/23. Quizlet #3 covering irregular verbs "Make" to "Win" on the chart on page 126 of the book on Thurs. 2/24. The Vocabulary 18 Quiz will be given Fri. 2/25. A test on tenses (Simple, Perfect, Progressive, Perfect Progressive) will be given next week.

Journalism
Students will submit rough drafts of their investigative article Wed. 2/23 and will submit the final journal on this day as well. The final copy of the article will be due on Fri. 3/4. In class, students will be working on dummy layouts for newspapers.

Week of February 7 to February 11

English 11
Students will complete a comprehensive Test on the parts of speech on Mon. 2/7. Vocabulary notebooks will be checked for a grade on Wed. 2/9 with a quiz to follow on Fri. 2/11. During the week students will work on parts of a sentence and will have corresponding homework sheets every day.

PSSA 12
All work will be completed in class.

SAT Prep
All work will be completed in class.

English 8
Students will complete a quiz on the first section of the Verb Unit on Mon. 2/7. Students will work on Tense during the week and will have corresponding homework sheets to practice conjugation. Vocabulary notebooks and worksheets will be checked for a grade on Wed. 2/9 with a quiz to follow on Fri. 2/11.

Journalism
Students will work on nonfiction writing techniques and strategies. Journals are due Fri. 2/11 and students should begin working on a concrete outline for the article. 1st and 2nd MP students will work on Newsweek or USA Today articles while new students receive information on historical figures and events in the progression of American Journalism; these summary reviews will also be due Fri. 2/11.

Week of January 31 to February 4

English 11 - There will be a review of all parts of speech worksheets and a general review of material prior to the test. A test covering all functions of the eight parts of speech will be held on Wed. 2/2. Students will begin working on parts of the sentence on Thurs. and Fri. and will have corresponding worksheets and activities on these days.

PSSA - Students will continue a review of literary terms and will have a quiz on Wed. 2/2.

English 8 - Students will review Verb packets to determine correct usage and will play a review game on Tuesday. A verb test on action, linking, and helping verb phrases will be given Wed. 2/2. The weekly vocabulary quiz on Lesson #16 will be held Friday 2/4.

Journalism - Students will begin article research for investigative project that will be due at a later time. Journal entries for Week #2 will be reviewed on Friday 2/4 and will be awarded point value.

SAT Prep - No homework.

Week of January 18 to January 21

English 11
Students will begin working on a review of parts of speech and parts of sentences before working with clauses and phrases. Students will be required to bring grammar texts for the next month.

PSSA
Students will begin working with Literary Terminology and will be required to take accurate notes for a an assessment in the following week.

English 8
Students will begin working on the verb unit and will complete a series of classroom activities to help better understand action, linking and auxiliary verbs and verb phrases. Students will also be completing the Vocabulary 15 quiz on Fri. 1/21.

Journalism
Students will be required to complete a Newsweek article summary/review while new students are integrated to the course. The class will then begin working on investigative journalism and immersion writing basics.

Week of 12/20 - 12/23

English 11
Students will view the 1993 Of Mice and Men film adaptation and will be required to complete a writing that focuses on major differences between the movie and the novel.

PSSA
All assignments will be completed in class. Students will complete District Assessment upon return from winter break.

Prac. Eng 10
Students will finish reading the final chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird and will take the final test Wed. 12/22. Writing Prompts for TKAM will be due Fri. 1/7.

English 8
Students will submit rough drafts for the adjective writing prompt Mon. 12/20. They will complete the Vocabulary 13 quiz on Tues. 12/21. Final drafts of the adjective assignment are due Tues. 1/4 and must be typed.

Journalism
Students will be finishing holiday news stories that will be due Wed. 12/22.

Week of December 6 - December 10

English 11
Students will review Chapters 1 and 2 from the novel Of Mice and Men in class but will be required to read Chapter 3 for homework. Completed Study Guides for Chapters 1-3 are due Tues. 12/7. Vocabulary terms defined in notebooks will be due Wed. 12/8 with a quiz to follow on Fri. 12/10. Students will also have a quiz on the first half of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.

PSSA
All work will be completed in class.

Practical Eng. 10
Study Guides for Chapters 12-14 will be due Mon. 12/6. Students will continue to read independently and will review key points of plot summary and characterization throughout. Study Guides for Chapters 15-16 will be due Wed. 12/8. Students will be responsible for reading up to Chapter 22 by Tues. 12/14.

English 8
Adjective posters must be completed Mon. 12/6. A quiz for Vocab Lesson #11 will be held Tues. 12/7 and new words will be given. Students will cover Positive, Comparative and Superlative adjectives and will have corresponding worksheets that must be done for homework.An activity for sensory observation will be done on Thursday with a brief written assignment due the following day. A quiz for Vocab Lesson #12 will be held Fri. 12/8.

Journalism
Students will review typography terminology and images. The typography quiz will be Wed. 12/8. Students will begin ethics activities that will be conducted in class. Any assignments that are not finished in class will become homework that is due uopn arrival to class the following day.

Week of 11/30 - 12/3

English 11
Students will submit a writing prompt for The Crucible due Wed. December 1. The paper must be typed and submitted at 8 am or will be considered late and will receive no credit. Students will begin reading Of Mice and Men and will have study guides that will be due periodically.

PSSA 12
All assignments will be completed in class.

Prac. English 10
Students will finish reading Part I of To Kill a Mockingbird and will be required to complete all study guides due Wed. December 1. Students will complete a quiz on Part I of TKAM on Thurs. December 2.

Journalism
Students will be required to take notes on typography terminology and will study the notes for a quiz in the following week. Students will choose 3 of the 6 areas of newsworthiness and will select current news articles that meet these requirements.
