Career Explorations
Students must bring in an actual job application to review necessary information required to secure employment. Students must also fill out the sample application and submit by Friday 10/12.
All Career Cluster Google Docs must be submitted by Friday 10/12; assignments incomplete or submitted after this date will not receive credit.
Honors English 10
Students must read The Lottery and answer the worksheet questions based on tone. After The Lottery, students will complete an in-class reading and discussion of The Raven and will begin preparing for the Unit Test.
Practical English 10
Students will complete an in-class reading of Fahrenheit 451. Following the reading of Part I, students should complete the study guide and character charts to be submitted for Friday 10/12.

Week of October 1 to October 5
Career Exploration
Students must complete all of the Career Cluster Google Docs by October 12th.
Honors English 10
Students will finish reading The Fall of the House of Usher and will discuss literary elements on Monday. Discussion will include the use of Gothic elements in both Usher and Poe's The Masque of the Red Death. Students will also be responsible for completing an assessment of the story before reading a parallel story in Cortazar's House Taken Over.
Practical English 10
Students will focus on dystopian literature and will discuss characteristics of the genre in preparation for the novel analysis of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.

Students must finish GoogleDocs for the first eight Career Clusters by Wednesday 9/26. The assignment for Hospitality & Tourism, Humanities, and Information Technology will be opened on Monday 9/24 but will not be due until next week.

Students will present Literary Device projects on Monday 9/24. Packets for Sleep Paralysis will also be due on Monday. Readings for The Masque of the Red Death will be due on Tuesday. Masque discussions about symbolism will take place in class on Tuesday and Wednesday. Literary Response Journals will be covered in class on Friday and students will begin working on the Perspective writing assignment.

Students will continue working on documents for each of the Career Clusters. This week, students must finish Agriculture, Architecture, Arts/Communication, Business Administration, Education, and Finance. All documents must be submitted by Friday 9/21.
Honors English 10
Students will begin work on Unit 1 - Inside the Nightmare and will read the following passages: Why Do Some Brains Enjoy Fear, Sleep Paralysis - A Waking Nightmare, Masque of the Red Death. Students will be responsible to take introductory notes, especially those on Gothic Literature and Edgar Allan Poe. The Poe mini-unit will have corresponding worksheets and graphic organizers in addition to the analysis work in the text.
Practical English 10
Students will begin reading Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. All reading will occur in class and students will be required to take independent notes during the discussion. Students will complete a graphic organizer to outline the basic plot events and to identify elements of Gothic Literature. Once Usher is complete, students will read House Taken Over and compare the two stories.

Students will complete notes for the Literary Terminology presentation. Individual assignments will include Allusions, Euphemisms, Metaphor Poems, and Theme. The Group project will be assigned on Friday and will be due on September 14. All online tests for Pearson must be completed by Friday September 7.

Friday - Classroom Contracts are due. Begin work on Identity Folder.
