Week of October 22 to October 26

Journalism
Students will proofread student articles and will work in class to create and finish the paper and digital layout of the first issue of the school newspaper.

Advanced Writing
Students will work in class to complete an outline for the Ordeal by Cheque assignment. Outlines for the Odd section will be due at the end of class on Friday 10/26 and on Monday 10/29 for the Even section.

English 11
Students will complete the Act II quiz for the Crucible on Tuesday 10/23. Vocabulary homework will be due on Wednesday 10/24 with a quiz to follow on Friday 10/26.

Honors English 10
Students will complete an assessment on Part One of Fahrenheit 451 on Monday 10/22. Readings will include pages 71-93 for Tuesday and pages 93 - the end of Part II for Thursday. Vocabulary homework will be due on Tuesday 10/23 with a quiz to follow on Friday 10/26.

Week of October 9 to October 12

Journalism
Students will submit inverted pyramid and interview articles on Wednesday 10/10. Obituaries will be due Friday 10/12.

Advanced Writing
Workshops and peer reviews will occur in class. Next week students will prepare for the character development project.

English 11
Vocabulary homework will be checked on Wednesday 10/10 with a quiz to follow on Friday 10/12. Study guides for Act I of The Crucible will also be due on Friday. An in-class review of the content will be covered this week and a quiz on Act I will be held on Monday 10/15.

Honors English 10
Students will read pages 3-32 of Fahrenheit 451 by Tuesday 10/9; class discussions will follow. Upcoming reading assignments include: 32-48 for Thursday 10/11 and 48-68 for Monday 10/15. Vocabulary quiz 2 will be given on Friday 10/12.

Week of October 1 to October 5

Journalism
Interview articles will be due Friday 10/5. Students will be watching the film Shattered Glass based upon Stephen Glass and the fictional stories that he submitted and had published through the New Republic magazine.

Advanced Writing
Blindfold sensory observation activity will be due Friday 10/5 for the odd group and Tuesday 10/9 for the even group. Character journals will begin next week.

English 11
Study guides for Act I Parts 1&2 of the Crucible will be due Friday. Homework for Vocabulary list 3 will be due Tuesday 10/9 with a quiz to follow on Friday 10/12.

Honors English 10
The Unit 1 - Short Stories Test will be given Wednesday 10/3. Vocabulary homework for list 2 will be due Tuesday 10/9 with a quiz to follow on Friday 10/12.

Week of September 24 to September 28

Journalism
Media consumption sheets and 6 newsworthy article examples will be due Monday 9/24. A quiz on Parts of a Newspaper and elements of newsworthiness will be given Tuesday 9/25. Leads will be covered in class and three examples will be due Friday 9/28.


Advanced Writing
Students will write a 1,000-word descriptive fictional piece that will  be due one week from the assignment date (Odd class - Friday 9/28, Even class - Monday 10/1).


English 11
Students will submit vocabulary homework on Monday 9/24 with a quiz to follow on Friday 9/28. A test on Unit 1 information will be given on Thursday 9/27; a review will occur on Wednesday and study guides will be distributed.

Honors English 10
Students will submit vocabulary homework on Tuesday 9/25 with a quiz to follow on Friday 9/28. First-person perspective papers on The Masque of the Red Death will be due Thursday 9/27. All work for the symbolism project and the corresponding presentation will be due Monday 10/1.

Week of September 17 to September 21

Journalism
First articles will be due on Monday September 24; the quiz on parts of a newspaper will also be held on this date. The first media consumption assignment will be due on Friday September 21.

Advanced Writing
Recreations of the blindfold activity will be done at home and shared in class next week.

English 11
Students will begin reading narrative accounts and will keep journal entries that can be completed in class. Original creation stories are due Wednesday September 19. Vocabulary homework for List 2 will be due Monday September 24.

Honors English 10
Students will submit Literary Device projects on Monday September 17. Masque of the Red Death storyboards and perspective writing assignments will be due Monday September 24.

Week of September 10 to September 14

Journalism
Students will be responsible for a review of the information presented in Chapter 2 of the textbook pertaining to First Amendment freedoms and rights, particularly freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Students will have a brief assessment of the processes for design and layout in Adobe InDesign.

Advanced Writing
All writing will be completed in class this week. Students may access the syvum vocabulary tool outside of class to add entries to their notebooks.

English 11
Students will begin work on the original Native American style Origin Myth/Creation Story. Final drafts of the story will be due Wednesday September 19. The quiz for Vocabulary Lesson 1 will be given on Friday September 14.

Honors English 10
Students will continue working with the short stories unit and will be responsible for readings in and outside of class in order to be prepared for class discussions. Stories for this week include W.W. Jacobs' The Monkey's Paw and Shirley Jackson's The Lottery. The quiz for Vocabulary Lesson 1A will be given on Friday September 14 and worksheets for the next lesson will be assigned immediately following the quiz.

Week of September 4 to September 7

Journalism
Students will review for the History of American Journalism quiz that will be given on Wednesday 9/5. The first media assignment will be given at the end of the week, but will not be due until Friday 9/14.

Adv. Writing
All assignments will be completed in class this week.

English 11
Students will review literary terms; assignments are due at the beginning of class on Tuesday 9/4; the quiz will follow on Wednesday 9/5. Students will be responsible for reading and outlining the introductory section of the textbook on Native American literature.

Honors English 10
Students will review literary terms; assignments will be due Monday 9/10 with a brief quiz on the same day. Students will also begin reading short stories for specific elements; this week will focus on plot and W.W. Jacobs' The Monkey's Paw.
